Why not get involved! A message from Mary-Lou...
Helping out with the wardrobe can be great fun and very rewarding – if you would like to get involved I would be delighted to hear from you!
We are fortunate to have such a marvellous wardrobe which enables us to costume the majority of our own shows but also gives us the opportunity to hire our things out to other societies and to the public. This is quite time consuming but is very rewarding and is a good source of income for the society.
In order to maintain the quality of our costumes there are numerous tasks involved. These include the washing or dry cleaning of clothes, repairing and making alterations if required, culling when we start running out of room, ensuring the safe storage of accessories such as hats and jewellery and generally checking that everything we have is in tip top condition. I also buy in or hire outfits for specific shows should the need arise. I work closely with each show director so that we can get the best look possible for our shows.
Another of my responsibilities is to hire out costumes to individual members of the public and to our members for fancy dress parties, theme nights or school dressing up days. This is very rewarding but again, can be very time consuming so I book individual appointments with open ended time slots so that each individual ‘client’ feels that he or she has the best possible look. I am greatly assisted in this by Steph Ridler who is responsible for props. Adding the right silver-topped cane, basket, birdcage or handbag can just finish off an outfit.
So if you think you might be interested in helping out, or would just like to hear more just send me a message via our contact page.
